ABOUT

HOLY SPIRIT THE GIVER,

THE GIFTS AND THE GIFTED

The apostle  Paul wrote about spiritual gifts being given to us by God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Author Valerie K. Kinsman examines the role of the Holy Spirit within this spiritual gift-giving experience.

Holy Spirit the Giver, the Gifts, and the Gifted focuses on the gifts given by the Holy Spirit, who the Holy Spirit is, and why the Holy Spirit plays an essential role in Christian's lives. Valerie utilizes the Word of God, revealing how these biblical passages illuminate the truth about how the Holy Spirit works and moves through the lives of those who believe in Him.

Alongside the importance of the Holy Spirit, Valerie K. Kinsman  also explores how to grow spiritually, how to avoid temptations and better understand the life experiences of doubt, unbelief, hope and faith. The power of faith can lead to miraculous healing, supernatural strength, and the ability to find the right path of walking in the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit Loves You

In the same manner that God loves you (John 3:16) and Jesus loves you (John 15:3, 1 John 3:16), Holy Spirit loves you, too (Rom. 5:5, Gal. 5:22).

The word “love” is the Greek word, “agape” which carries the meaning of much affection, benevolence, and charity. This is the kind of abundant love that wants to generously give you things!

This is the deepest revelation of love from God- whether expressed through the giving of His Son Jesus, or His Son Jesus giving us everlasting life and the Holy Spirit, or the Holy Spirit pouring out the love from God Himself into our hearts to fill us with all the fullness of God (Eph. 3) or that we may have a love for others. Our Godhead expresses love through giving and holding nothing back from us (Rom. 8:32, 2 Pet.1:3).

The apostle Paul prays that we would comprehend and experience this kind of love:

That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (Eph. 3:17-19)

When we comprehend and experience the love of Christ, we can be filled with all the fullness of God. This is because God is love (1 John 4:7-8).

It is the Holy Spirit who helps us to know and believe that God loves us (1 John 4:12-19). When we have a firm belief that God loves us, all fear is banished from our lives.

Paul tells Timothy:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

(2 Tim. 1:7)

Fear has no jurisdiction when the Spirit of love reigns in a situation. And the Spirit of God is always available to believers to help them (Ps. 139:7-10). He is omnipresent in our lives as an expression of God Himself.

You Are Fully Known

The concept that we are fully known can be both comforting and terrifying at the same time if we have not fully comprehended the love of God toward us. The letter to the Hebrews tells us that the Word of God fully knows us:

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” (Heb. 4:12-13)

Without knowing the love of God this idea could be terrifying. But if you read a few verses more in this chapter, it explains to us the grace and mercy that is available to each of us when the Word of God brings light to our hearts and exposes things we need to change.  The Word of God (Jesus) is omniscient. It is all-knowing and contains the power to change things.

The Holy Spirit is also omniscient. He hears things from God and relays them to us. He knows exactly what we need to hear and gives us the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:9-16), which is a sound mind. He can even tell us things to come or explain exactly what we need to know (John 14:26, John 16:12-13). He relays the very heart of God to us. He cannot be more relevant than this. He loves us by ministering peace and wisdom to us.

The Creator of Life

The Holy Spirit is also omnipotent. He is all-powerful. He created the very living form of the Christ child inside of Mary, wrapping the Word of God in the likeness of human flesh. Luke wrote:

“And the angel answered and said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.'” (Luke 1:35)

In the same manner Job declared: “The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”

(Job 33:4) This is true for all creatures of the Earth (Ps. 104:30).

Holy Spirit was present at the beginning of creation (Gen.1:1-3). He was the very breath of life that God breathed into Adam (Gen. 2: 7). He will also be the one who raises all believers from the dead (Rom. 8:11). Jesus said the Words that He spoke to us carried the very life of the Spirit within them (John 6:63).

How is the Holy Spirit able to raise all who believe in Christ from the dead unto everlasting life? It is because He is the eternal Spirit of the Everlasting God (Heb. 9:14).  He is the creator of life.

So far, we have discovered through the scriptures that the Holy Spirit gives us love, that He is ever-present in our lives, that He fully knows us, and that He is the all-powerful giver of life. We have also learned that He is eternal. Words such as omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, and eternal describe Holy Spirit as a deity and as a fully functioning person of the Godhead. In unmistakable ways, God’s word proclaims who the Holy Spirit is to us and describes Him as a person.

The Holy Spirit as a Person

Every one of us has attributes that we acknowledge are unique to human beings as a person. The Holy Spirit possesses the attributes of a person also. God desires that we experience the Holy Spirit as a person and not simply view Him as some distant helper or cooperator. After all, He is inhabiting us, speaking to us, comforting us. The more we interact with Holy Spirit, the more we will experience His love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22-23). These things “rub off on us” because they are His character traits flowing from Him as we interact with Him.

Learning to know Holy Spirit as a person is an ongoing revelation of all of His ways. Jesus told us He would be our Helper. The word “helper” carries the connotation of an intercessor and a comforter. He is someone who is always on “our side”, speaking on our behalf and encouraging our hearts. Holy Spirit is our supernatural friend!
